Exterior Restoration, Yarraville

A challenging yet rewarding restoration of a period home, front and back, where the goal was keeping water out for the long term while preserving the character of the house.

Damaged weatherboards across the front and back were repaired, and new double-glazed windows were installed; each taped and sealed into the wall wrap and finished with new architraves inside and out.

The front and rear decks were rebuilt from the ground up, with a new subfloor structure, joist tops sealed with bitumen against moisture and new merbau decking installed. At the back, the timber posts had rotted so badly they were barely bearing on anything, so new posts went in; sealed at the base with bitumen.

The original turned posts at the front were kept; the rotted sections were cut out and new timber spliced in, and new Victorian-profile skirting was fitted around each base.

Every detail was chosen to manage moisture better than before while keeping the home looking as it always has.
